Quote of the Day: Texting

“I hate the talk on the cell phone. I don’t like it when I have to call someone instead of texting them. The reason I have the phone is to text.”

spoken by a student today during a conversation at lunch. I’m hearing statements like this from a lot of the students I talk to. It doesn’t matter if it is a middle schooler or a high schooler – they are all on their phones texting. Are you hearing the same thing from your students?

  1. I have seen students who can text like there is no tomorrow, but when on the phone, freeze up and cannot communicate. Perhaps students are more into passive forms of communication (text, IM) than active ones (phone, face to face) because it is less demanding and less personal?

  2. i think it is true. and will probably just become more evident as each age groups grows up because they have grown up in a non-personal era of communication.
